Healthy lifestyles will be discussed and encouraged. Information on health issues and concerns will be addressed in written form, individually, or talks to groups. Have a safe trip!

Whether you are traveling by air, boat, or car this travel season, be safe.

Ø  For children in cars at any time, please have an appropriate sized and properly installed safety seat. Keep children in the back seat. There is a national average of 80% for misuse of safety seats. Our local Belleville fire and police departments and the St. Clair county sheriff’s office and health department offer child safety seat checks. An appointment is necessary.

Ø  Give your car some TLC before the trip. Check the tire pressure, check the oil and keep your tank at least ¼ full. Have a road service package and a cell phone if possible for those unexpected break downs. BE SAFE.

Ø  Give yourself and kids TLC. Pack snacks and drinks for the car. Drink plenty of fluids. Avoid caffeine. No liquid is allowed at airport check in so take a travel cup and fill it with water once you are through security. Keep Hydrated.

Ø  If you need to pull off to check something, get off the road to a safe area. Do not use the roadside emergency pull off area. BE SAFE.

Ø  Make frequent car stops, at least every 2 hours to stretch and wake up. Change drivers if you can.

Ø On long plane trips, get up to the bathroom to stretch your legs even if you don’t need to. This will help prevent blood clots in your legs. Wear support stockings if you have them to prevent swelling. BE SAFE.

Ø Pack all your medications and keep in the original prescription or OTC containers if going abroad for proper identification. Keep medications in cool place. Not in the trunk of the car. If going by air or boat keep them with you in a carry on luggage.

Ø Carry disposable socks to slip on to protect feet. The socks must be thrown away after inspection is complete according to TSA guidelines.

Ø Let someone in your family know your travel plans in case of an emergency.

Ø BE SAFE
