Religious Education
Welcome to the new "Religious Education" web page. This page is under development and will eventually support all of the activities of the "Christian Formation and Education Leadership Community". Currently, information pertaining to Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA), Parish School of Religion (PSR), Liturgy of the Word for Children, and Preschool of Religion (Sunday School) is contained here. Watch for more to come.
If an adult wishes to join the Catholic Church, he or she is invited to participate in the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults Program. The RCIA sessions are currently held on Sunday mornings in the Rectory basement at 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. from September to the Easter Vigil and a few weeks beyond Easter. The sessions focus on understanding how faith works in our lives, and how we can express it in our own personal prayer life and in the celebration of the sacraments. Various stages of the process are marked by liturgical celebrations during the Sunday Liturgy. The program culminates at the Easter Vigil, when an individual is Baptized (if he or she has never been baptized) or makes the profession of faith (if they have been baptized in another religion) is Confirmed, and receives the Eucharist for the first time in the Catholic Church. This program includes the Catechists and the sponsors, as well as those interested in the Catholic Faith. For further information on the RCIA Program or information on how you can become a sponsor or member of the RCIA catechetical team, please contact the Coordinator of Religious Education, Kathy Oughton, at 233-3500.
Parish School of Religion (PSR)
The primary purpose of the St. Teresa Parish School of Religion Program is to provide assistance and support to the parents of children who attend public schools. St. Teresa Parish has dedicated catechists, aides, and other volunteers who work with parents for the catechesis of their children. Students in grades 1 through 8 may attend these chasses. Parents are encouraged to support religious education of their children by the personal practice of the faith, encouraging their children to participate actively in classes, and to assist the catechist upon request. Classes are held on Wednesday evenings from 6:45 to 8:00 p.m. in St. Teresa School. For further information, contact the Coordinator of Religious Education, Kathy Oughton at 233-3500.
